Where do jokes originate?

is there like a think tank somewhere in the Himalayas, in which a bunch of linguists construct jokes and then spread them into the world?

Jokes are said to be originated in ancient Greece by Palamedes, who legendarily outwitted Odysseus before the Trojan War.

This known joke was dated 1200 BC.

Then, in 350 BC, a comedy club, called the "Group of Sixty" was formed to swap jokes and witticisms.

Moving on, in 5 AD, the earliest known jokebook (which still exist until today) was written. It contained 264 jokes. The book was called 'The Philogelos'.

From peoples brains!!!!!
Usually it's just people like you and me; I'm sure it was no think tank member who made up the jokes about the Challenger explosion.
How did you know? No one was supposed to let out the word. If you see a Sherpa with a rubber chicken coming up the walk, DON'T ANSWER THE DOOR!!!!
